Jairam Thakur Slams Govt Over Supplementary Budget, Alleges ‘Mafia Raj’ in Himachal

1 min read

Shimla, March 19: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Sukhu-led Congress government, accusing it of financial mismanagement and lack of fiscal discipline.

Addressing the media at his Assembly office, Thakur said the supplementary budget—amounting to nearly 70% of the main budget—exposes the government’s failure in financial planning and credibility of its estimates. He remarked that the government’s claims of “fiscal prudence, fiscal management and fiscal discipline” have been completely undermined.

He further pointed out that capital expenditure has declined to ₹3,941 crore, a drop of 37%, accounting for only 3.98% of the total budget, raising serious concerns about stalled development in the state. Questioning the utilisation of funds, he asked where the ₹98,975 crore budget allocation had been spent. He also criticized the government for not providing supplementary budget documents.
