Shimla, Feb 20: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Shimla Police have placed four accused under preventive detention provisions of the PIT NDPS Act to dismantle organised narcotics networks and safeguard public safety. The accused — Manoj alias Manna, Ankit Thakur, Govind Singh, and Lokinder Kanwar — were found repeatedly involved in drug-related cases, including the recovery of heroin (chitta) and cannabis in multiple FIRs registered at Rampur, Kumarsain, and Kotkhai police stations.
Police stated that Manoj alias Manna allegedly operated as a key handler of an organised drug syndicate, coordinating activities and resources for co-accused. Ankit Thakur was reportedly active in distribution and sale of narcotics, while Govind Singh and Lokinder Kanwar have a history of repeated arrests under the NDPS Act.
The preventive detention aims to break the drug supply chain, prevent repeat offences, and protect youth from the growing menace of narcotics. Shimla Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and affirmed that strict legal action will continue against those involved.
