THDC India Limited Hosts 31st Inter-CPSU Chess Tournament Successfully

Rishikesh, 01-02-2026: THDC India Limited successfully concluded the 31st Inter-Central Power Sector Undertakings (ICPSU) Chess Tournament, organized under the aegis of the Power Sports Control Board (PSCB), Ministry of Power, Government of India, on 31 January 2026, at THDC India Limited.
Sipan Kumar Garg, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited, congratulated the winning teams and players for their commendable performance in the tournament and appreciated the playing spirit displayed by all participants. Garg further noted that THDCIL remains committed to fostering a culture of sports and wellness, which contributes to holistic employee development and strengthens camaraderie across Power Sector PSUs
The closing ceremony was graced by Dr. A. N. Tripathy, Chief General Manager (HR–Administration & Corporate Communications), THDC India Limited, who congratulated the winning teams and players and appreciated the enthusiastic participation and exemplary sportsman spirit displayed by all the teams throughout the tournament.
A total of 11 teams from various Power Sector PSUs participated in the championship. In the Open Chess Championship (Team Event), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) emerged as the winner, followed by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in second position, while THDC India Limited secured the third position. In the Open Individual Championship, Shri Saurabh Biswas (Grid India) secured the first position, while Shri Saurabh Dhiman (SJVNL) and Shri Naga Pawan Kalyan Kumar (PGCIL) secured the second and third positions respectively.
In the Women’s Chess Championship (Team Event), PGCIL secured the first position, followed by NHPC in second position and Grid India in third position. In the Women’s Individual Championship, Ms. Lia George (NHPC) secured the first position, while Ms. Himanshi (PGCIL) and Ms. Kamlesh (PGCIL) secured the second and third positions respectively.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by A. K. Vishwakarma, DGM (HR–Welfare). The tournament was conducted under the Swiss System, strictly adhering to all FIDE rules and regulations, and was officiated by Swati Bhatt (International Arbiter), Sankalp Arora (FIDE Arbiter), and Prakrati Manodhya (FIDE Arbiter).
Teams from Ministry of Power (MoP), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), Grid India, NHPC, Power Finance Corporation (PFC), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), SJVNL, and THDC India Limited participated in the above tournament.
