Two farmers from Chamba honored for multiplication of indigenous grain & crop germplasm.

Giving information, Dr. Dharmendra Kumar, scientist in charge of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Chamba, said that in a workshop organized recently at Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni (Solan) under the Plant Protection and Farmers Rights Act, farmer Pawan Kumar of village Tiwari in development block Saluni and Anil Kumar of village Bagoli under Chamba development block were honored by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, for the conservation and multiplication of indigenous grains and crop germplasm.
He explained that farmers displayed indigenous seeds in an exhibition held during the program to showcase the diversity of local crop species. The exhibition provided information about the importance of conserving indigenous seeds and traditional crop species in the context of climate change challenges, and also made farmers aware of the need to conserve, promote, and register their local varieties.
He stated that scientists Dr. Jaya and Dr. Neha from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chamba, participated in the workshop with farmers. He also stated that seeds from protected germplasm will soon be registered under the PPV&FR Act to protect farmers’ rights and ensure long-term conservation.
