HPU Hosts Tourism Week Celebrations to Mark World Tourism Day

Shimla, 25 September: To mark World Tourism Day, the Institute of Vocational Studies (Tourism), Himachal Pradesh University, is celebrating a week-long Tourism Week under the coordination of Professor Nitin Vyas. The Department of Tourism and Travel is organizing a series of academic and cultural events aimed at spreading awareness about the importance of tourism and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
The celebrations began on 19 September with sports competitions, inaugurated in the presence of dignitaries including Prof. Hari Singh (Head, Department of Physical Education) as Chief Guest, along with Col. Rakesh Sharma, Prof. Sonia Khan (Director, Institute of Vocational Studies), Prof. Sushma Rewal, Prof. Chandra Mohan Parsheera, Prof. Nitin Vyas, Dr. Preeti Kanwar Nagal, Dr. Vineet Kamal, Mr. Surender, and Mr. Vishal Mehra.
Students actively participated in cricket, chess, and carrom tournaments. On 25 September, a Heritage Visit to the Presidential Retreat at Mashobra was organized for 45 students, coordinated by research scholar Ashish Negi, who emphasized the importance of such activities for inclusive learning and skill development in tourism studies.
A Dry Food Competition was also held, judged by Mr. Sushil Sharma, General Manager, HR Café & Restaurant, who praised the creativity and culinary skills of the students.
The Tourism Week will conclude on 29 September with a cultural programme and closing ceremony at the university auditorium.
