Himachal Pradesh Police has set a strong example of its zero-tolerance policy against drugs by dismissing one of its own constables found involved in drug trafficking. The case surfaced on May 16 when Dharampur Police arrested Harish Sharma (31) with 11.33 grams of heroin (chitta). During investigation, evidence revealed the involvement of Constable Lalit Kanwar, who had transferred money to a drug supplier through an online app, leaving behind digital traces that exposed his role.
Lalit Kanwar (28), a resident of Jabli village, had joined the police force seven years ago. He was arrested on June 19 and suspended immediately. A departmental inquiry later confirmed all charges, leading to his dismissal from service.
SP Solan Gaurav Singh confirmed the action, calling it a disgraceful act that tarnishes the integrity of the entire police force. He reiterated that the government and police are committed to their zero-tolerance policy against drugs and that no one, including police personnel, will be spared if found guilty.
