Chamba, Sept. 01 – District Collector Mukesh Repswal reported that the Chamba administration prioritized safety, accommodation, and food for Shri Mani Mahesh Yatra pilgrims, ensuring their secure transit to destinations amid heavy rainfall. Between August 23–25, nearly 15,000 pilgrims were stranded in Bharmour due to landslides. A major rescue operation was launched from August 27–29, bringing pilgrims from track routes to Bharmour and onward to Chamba.
Over 10,000 pilgrims have been safely transported, while 3,000–4,000 remain in Bharmour, with full arrangements for lodging and meals in place. The administration expressed gratitude to local communities, langar committees, HRTC, and rescue teams for their support during the operation.
Collector Repswal also highlighted the extensive rainfall damage across the district, including 15–20 major landslides on the national highway between Bagga and Durgethi, which will take time to repair. Departments such as PWD, Jal Shakti, and HPSEBL have worked round-the-clock to restore road, water, and electricity services, while police and NDRF teams successfully evacuated approximately 9,500 pilgrims in a single day.
