Severe Rainfall in Hamirpur: Multiple Houses Destroyed, Emergency Relief Activated

Hamirpur, Sept.01– Continuous rainfall over the past two days has caused significant damage across Hamirpur district. In the last 24 hours, six houses and 15 cowsheds were completely destroyed, while seven other houses sustained heavy damage.
In Chabutra Khas village of Sujanpur subdivision, five families lost their homes due to land subsidence on Sunday. Among the affected were three pucca and two kutcha houses. The district administration has provided immediate relief of ₹25,000 to each family and set up a relief camp with food and essential facilities under the supervision of SDM Sujanpur, Vikas Shukla. Additionally, a kutcha house in Dohg village, Kangu sub-tehsil, was also destroyed.
District Magistrate and DDMA Chairperson Amarjeet Singh stated that the total estimated damage in the district during this monsoon season has exceeded ₹184 crore, affecting departments such as Jal Shakti, PWD, HPSEBL, Education, Horticulture, and Agriculture. Precautionary measures have been intensified, with disaster management teams on alert and field staff instructed to report damages promptly.
The district administration has urged residents to avoid riverbanks, landslide-prone areas, and outdoor exposure during heavy rainfall.
