Heavy Rain Causes ₹96 Crore Loss in Bilaspur District: DC

Bilaspur, August 25 – Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar informed that two days of heavy rainfall has caused an estimated loss of around ₹96 crore in Bilaspur district. Of this, the Public Works Department (PWD) reported damage worth ₹75 crore, while the Jal Shakti Department suffered losses of about ₹20 crore.
As a result of the downpour, 20 roads under PWD remain closed and more than 50 drinking water supply schemes have been disrupted. The electricity board also reported damage to poles and a 0.30 km LT line under Ghumarwin Division. Traffic movement on the four-lane highway has also been affected, with NHAI directed to carry out urgent repairs.
The DC said officials of PWD, Jal Shakti, and the Electricity Board are on the ground working to restore connectivity and water supply on a war footing. All schools and Anganwadi centres in the district were ordered shut due to heavy rains, and may remain closed if conditions persist.
He urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers and streams, and strictly follow safety advisories issued by the administration. In case of emergency, people may contact the District Disaster Management Authority helpline.
