Strict Action in Shimla Against Illegal Tree Cutting for Construction

Shimla Aug 10 : The Municipal Corporation has fined 12 building owners nearly ₹2 lakh for illegally cutting trees or branches to clear plots or allow sunlight into homes. Joint Commissioner Dr. Bhuvan Sharma’s court warned that further damage to trees could lead to building plan cancellation. Around 18 more such cases are under hearing. Tree cutting without permission is strictly banned, and even trimming branches requires official approval. Environmentalists have welcomed the decision, while city regulations mandate a 2–5 meter distance between buildings and green trees, with 26 designated green zones off-limits for construction.
