1 min read

Jubbal, August 9, 2025 — Education Minister Rohit Thakur attended the historic district-level Rathal Fair in Shurachali, a centuries-old celebration symbolizing the deep faith of the local people. Four prominent deities—Banad, Deshmaulia, Pawasi, and Gudaru—from surrounding villages participated in the festivities, drawing crowds from both the local area and neighboring Rohru.

Extending greetings to devotees, Thakur emphasized that fairs and festivals are a vital part of Himachal Pradesh’s rich heritage, fostering love, harmony, and social unity. He urged the youth to stay connected to their cultural roots while advancing in today’s modern, scientific era.

Highlighting developmental works in Shurachali, Thakur detailed major infrastructure projects, including the ₹22.48 crore metalling and tarring of the Sawda–Mandal–Jhagtaan road, reconstruction of disaster-hit Mandal road, and the upcoming ₹4.25 crore Chamsu Bridge. He also noted ongoing works on health and education facilities, as well as rural road projects under PMGSY.

The fair, declared district-level last year, was celebrated this year in its expanded status. Thakur inaugurated the event by cutting a cake, followed by vibrant cultural performances.
