Mandi, July 26, 2025 — The transfer of the Horticulture and Forestry College from Thunag has triggered major unrest in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district. Protests against Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi have resulted in three FIRs being lodged at Janjehli Police Station, following allegations of road blockade, black flag protests, stone-pelting, and shoe-throwing.
The protests erupted on July 25 as Minister Negi visited flood and landslide-affected areas in Seraj and later stayed at the Thunag rest house. Local residents and BJP supporters, angered by the government’s decision to relocate the college, staged demonstrations.
The first FIR, filed on a complaint by Congress leader Jagdish Reddy, names 57 individuals for blocking the minister’s convoy and showing black flags.
The second FIR includes serious charges of stone pelting and death threats, filed under IPC Sections 125, 351(2), and 352.
A third FIR accuses seven women of blocking the minister’s vehicle on the Thunag bridge, raising slogans, and throwing a shoe at his car in protest.
Police have initiated investigations and confirmed the presence of both officers and eyewitnesses at the spot. The situation has added fuel to the ongoing political tension in the region, with the opposition and locals continuing to oppose the controversial decision.
