Story of Strength and Support: How Workers’ Welfare Board Gave Hope to Sumna Devi’s Family

Hamirpur, June 22, 2025 — Life had never been easy for Sumna Devi, a daily-wage laborer from Ghurala village in Bharedi, Hamirpur. But when her husband Praveen Kumar passed away suddenly due to illness, the burden of raising three children and caring for elderly in-laws pushed her family into deep despair.
With no stable income and mounting responsibilities, Sumna Devi found herself on the brink of hopelessness — until the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board stepped in like a lifeline.
Both Sumna and her late husband were registered with the Board. Following her husband’s demise, the Board provided her with ₹2.20 lakh as financial assistance — a gesture that gave her family breathing space amidst overwhelming grief.
Sumna’s eldest daughter is now pursuing a B.Sc. in Nursing, her son is in Class 11, and the youngest daughter is continuing her schooling. To support their education, she has also applied for educational aid from the Board. Additionally, Sumna has submitted an application for ₹3 lakh to rebuild her crumbling home.
For families like hers, the Board’s 14 welfare schemes are nothing short of a blessing. In times of tragedy, they don’t just offer aid — they restore dignity, opportunity, and the will to move forward.
