HPU Community Pays Tribute to Victims of Pahalgam Terror Attack

Shimla, April 23, 2025: Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) today held a solemn tribute ceremony in memory of the 28 innocent civilians killed in the Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The ceremony took place outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office, where faculty members and non-teaching staff gathered to express their grief and solidarity.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nitin Vyas condemned the heinous act, stating, “The brutal killing of tourists selectively targeted for their faith is a direct assault on the unity and integrity of India. Every Indian is outraged. The country must respond firmly to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.” He also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajendra Verma expressed profound sorrow over the cowardly attack, stating that every citizen stands with the nation in this painful hour and that terrorism must be answered with strength. A two-minute silence was observed, followed by floral tributes offered by the university community.
The gathering resolved to send a formal memorandum to the Prime Minister, demanding a strong response to the neighboring nation’s provocation.
Prominent attendees included Prof. Rajendra Verma, Prof. Nagesh Thakur, Prof. Jyoti Prakash, Prof. Khem Chand, Dr. Shivkumar Dogra, Dr. Joginder Saklani, Dr. Anjali, Dr. Sushila Negi, Dr. Neelam, Dr. Sunita, Dr. Sapna Chandel, and many others from the teaching and non-teaching staff.
