Himachali Historian Nem Chand Thakur Honoured with Shabdsatta Samman

Shimla, April 20, 2025 – A grand literary and cultural felicitation ceremony was held at the Gaiety Theatre Auditorium, jointly organized by the Lucknow-based literary magazine Shabdsatta and Himalaya Sahitya Sanskriti Manch. In this special event, renowned historian and scholar of Himachali culture, Nem Chand Thakur, was conferred with the prestigious Shabdsatta Samman.
As part of the honor, Mr. Thakur was presented with a cash prize of ₹11,000, a traditional shawl, a memento, and a certificate of recognition. The event also witnessed the launch of a special edition of Shabdsatta dedicated to Nem Chand Thakur.
Chief Guest Virendra Kumar Singh, poet and editor of Apratim magazine from Lucknow, highlighted the rare synergy of history and literature embodied by Nem Chand Thakur and emphasized how honoring such individuals elevates the stature of the award itself. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Thakur expressed gratitude to the Shabdsatta family and described the recognition as a proud moment in his life.
Presiding over the event, eminent storyteller S.R. Harnot remarked that honoring a writer also brings recognition to the city they belong to, thus making this event a matter of pride for Shimla as well.
Shabdsatta editor Sushil Sitapuri extended a warm welcome and vote of thanks to all dignitaries, while the event was seamlessly conducted by Dinesh Sharma. A large number of literature enthusiasts attended the ceremony, adding to its grandeur.
