Mumbai’s prominent literary organization, Swar Sangam Foundation, organized a storytelling session and discussion with renowned author and literary activist S.R. Harnot at the Mumbai Virungala Kendra Sabha Ghar, Mira Road. The event was held in the presence of senior litterateurs Dhirendra Asthana, Hari Mridul, and Kusum Tripathi, and was attended by writers, journalists, and theater artists from Mumbai and beyond. The program was coordinated by Rakesh Sharma, Raman Mishra, and Hari Prasad Rai.
Harnot read his widely acclaimed story “Bhaga Devi ka Chai Ghar,” which mesmerized the audience. Dhirendra Asthana, who chaired the event, praised Harnot’s storytelling, saying that “Bhaga Devi ka Chai Ghar” is one of his finest stories. Although the story revolves around a woman selling tea on a mountain, Harnot has skillfully woven in the nuances of a woman’s mind, reflecting the contemporary reality.
Hari Mridul began his remarks by referencing Harnot’s story “Billiyan Batiyati Hai” and said that Harnot’s storytelling has the power to evoke memories. He praised Harnot’s ability to capture the struggles of women and the environment in his stories, which is particularly relevant in today’s world.
Kusum Tripathi, a prominent social worker and environmentalist, highlighted the exploitation of women and the environment by multinational corporations and governments. She praised Harnot’s stories for giving voice to the struggles of women and the environment.
The discussion also touched upon the topic of the Kinnaur tribe and the misuse of the term “Kinnaur” to refer to the third gender. Hari Mridul recalled that Harnot had opposed this misuse of the term in 2000, and that his story “Kinnaur” is a testament to his commitment to social justice.
The event concluded with Hridayesh Mayank expressing gratitude to Harnot for taking the time to participate in the storytelling session and discussion. The event was attended by several prominent litterateurs, including Dhirendra Asthana, Hari Mridul, Husn Tabassum, Shailesh Singh, Hridayesh Mayank, Kusum Tripathi, Sushila Tiwari, Lalita Asthana, Raman Mishra, Rakesh Sharma, Mukhtar Khan, and poet Budhilal Pal from Chhattisgarh.
