A devastating fire broke out in a two-story house near the Regional Hospital in Lower Keylong on Tuesday evening around 6:40 PM, resulting in the tragic death of a four-year-old child. The house, rented by Nepalese-origin Bheem Bahadur and his family, was completely destroyed, with damages estimated to exceed ₹10 lakh.

At the time of the incident, Bheem Bahadur and his wife were away at work, leaving their son asleep in the house. The fire, which spread rapidly due to a gas cylinder explosion, caused the house to collapse. Despite swift efforts by the fire brigade, police, home guards, and local residents, the fire could only be controlled after significant damage. The child’s body was recovered from the debris on Wednesday morning.

Tehsildar Keylong, Ramesh Kumar, confirmed that the family was living in the house on rent and had lost all their belongings. Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar assured immediate relief to the grieving family, including essential supplies and ₹3.75 lakh in financial aid.

This heart-wrenching incident has left the community in shock, raising concerns about fire safety and preparedness in the region.
