1 min readShimla, September 28, 2024 – To promote the use of Hindi in government offices, SJVN Chief Vigilance Officer Prem Prakash emphasized the need for self-reflection during a lecture held under the “Rajbhasha Pakhwada.” Speaking on the topic ‘Hindi Language, Rajbhasha: Dimensions of Self-Reflection,’ he noted that enthusiasm for Hindi often peaks during Hindi Diwas, yet the language’s foundation is strong, and its use as an official language should not be neglected.
Prem Prakash highlighted the 2001 census, which showed that 41% of Indians identified Hindi as their primary language, a figure that grew to 43% in 2011, and is estimated to range between 41-46% today. Only 10% of the population speaks English as a second language. He also discussed the importance of promoting all Indian languages and urged using Hindi and regional languages to bridge communication between states. He began his lecture with a verse by Mirza Ghalib and recited a poem by Hindi writer Raghuvir Sahay.
In his address, he acknowledged the challenges in implementing Hindi as an official language and shared his experiences in overcoming these difficulties. SJVN’s Executive Director (HR) Chandrashekhar Yadav expressed gratitude to all participants and stressed the importance of promoting Hindi in official work. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to all attendees.
