Jairam Thakur Opposes Tourism Village in Palampur Agricultural University, Calls Decision “Absurd”
1 min readShimla, September 6: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has strongly criticized the state government’s decision to establish a Tourism Village within the Palampur Agricultural University. Speaking to media representatives, Thakur termed the proposal “absurd” and demanded that the university land be used solely for agricultural research and related purposes.
Thakur emphasized that agricultural universities require large tracts of land for research, and any attempt to divert this land for commercial purposes would hinder future agricultural advancements. He urged the government to withdraw the decision, adding that if additional land is available, it should be utilized to open new research centers dedicated to agricultural development.
The BJP has vowed to oppose the Tourism Village project both inside the Assembly and on the streets, stating that commercial ventures should not be allowed to interfere with vital agricultural research.
