Celebration of Renewable Energy Day at GSSS Kandaghat, Solan

Solan, August 20 — Every year on August 20, India observes Akshay Urja Diwas, also known as Renewable Energy Day, to spread awareness about the importance and development of renewable energy in the country. This day also marks the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, recognized for his contributions to science and technology. Over the years, India has made significant progress in the field of renewable energy, with the government aiming to derive 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.

To mark this occasion, the EIACP Hub Himcost organized an awareness campaign at GSSS Kandaghat, Solan, under the Mission LiFE initiative. The event’s chief guest, Mr. Siddharth Acharya, SDM Kandaghat, Solan, emphasized the importance of energy conservation and encouraged students to focus on improving their foundational knowledge, rather than just securing good grades. He also urged teachers to assist students in enhancing their scientific understanding to secure their future.

Principal of GSSS Kandaghat, Mr. Kuldeep Surya, welcomed the chief guest, SDM Siddharth Acharya, along with Mr. Raj Kumar Parashar, Deputy Education Officer, and officials from Himcost. He expressed gratitude to the Himcost officials for organizing such activities for the school’s students, noting that it would boost their motivation. Mr. Surya highlighted the importance of energy conservation in daily life.

Mr. Raj Kumar Parashar, Deputy Education Officer, spoke about the significance of Renewable Energy Day and the need to raise awareness about energy conservation.

Mrs. Priyanka Sharma, Coordinator, EIACP PC Hub, Himcost Shimla, provided insights into Renewable Energy Day and its celebration under Mission LiFE, a people’s movement led by India to promote environmental protection. She shared that India is continuously advancing in promoting renewable energy, with the Himachal Pradesh government aiming to make the state a Green Energy State by 2030. She also educated students about simple ways to conserve energy, such as turning off lights when not in use, using public transport, reducing the use of lifts, and encouraging the use of LED bulbs.

The event saw the participation of nearly 200 students from 30 schools in the Kandaghat block, Solan. An inter-school art competition and quiz competition were also organized by EIACP PC Hub, with the aim of raising awareness about renewable energy among students and testing their knowledge.

In the art competition, Senior Category Winners were:
First Place: Mitali, DAV School, Kandaghat
Second Place: Jatin, GSSS Chosha
Third Place: Mahak, GSSS Salogra

Junior Category Winners were:
First Place: Ashima, Elite School, Solan
Second Place: Deeksha, GMSS Palech
Third Place: Rishika, GHS Sakodi

The quiz competition winners were:
First Place: Harshit and Anshika, GHS Paplola
Second Place: Mahak and Yashika, DAV School, Kandaghat
Third Place: Sayam and Dhiren, GSSS Kandaghat

The winners were honored with awards and certificates. The event also featured a short play performed by students on the occasion of Renewable Energy Day. The students pledged to promote the use of renewable energy in their daily lives.

The program was attended by Principal Mr. Kuldeep Surya, District Science Supervisor Solan Mr. Amrish Sharma, and EIACP Himcost officials Mrs. Priyanka Sharma, Ajay Panwar, Dr. Ritvik Chauhan, and Jai Priya.
