In a scathing attack, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukkhu accused former legislators Sudhir Sharma and other rebel leaders of being involved in corrupt practices, alleging that they received more than 15 crore rupees. Speaking to journalists in Nadaun, the Chief Minister asserted that all cases against the defected legislators, including those related to disproportionate assets, would be brought before the court of public opinion.
“The hunger for power of Jairam Thakur’s government has increased,” Sukkhu stated, suggesting a shift towards using money power to attain political dominance after failing to secure a majority through democratic means. He emphasized that the people had rejected the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and it was time for Jairam Thakur to reconsider his ambitions.
Sukkhu lamented the transformation of politics into a money-driven enterprise, particularly highlighting the massive investments made by former legislators in their constituencies, often ranging from 300 to 400 crore rupees. He criticized the notion of elected representatives spending vast sums during elections only to resort to corrupt practices to recover their expenses and destabilize the government if their earnings fall short.
Furthermore, Sukkhu underscored the rich legacy of sacrifice within the Congress party, citing numerous leaders, including former Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers, who had dedicated their lives to the nation’s progress. He reiterated the Congress party’s commitment to advancing the country’s interests through its ideology and principles.
Regarding ticket distribution for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections, the Chief Minister announced that a screening committee meeting would be held in Delhi on Saturday to finalize the candidates. Once the committee’s decisions are made, the names will be forwarded to the Central Election Committee, ensuring clarity on ticket allocation by evening.
With these statements, Sukhwinder Singh Sukkhu initiated a bold confrontation against corruption within the political ranks while reiterating the Congress party’s commitment to ethical governance and accountability.
