In Himachal Pradesh, security measures may be intensified around six rebel Congress leaders who are set to join the BJP. After their induction into the BJP, these six rebels might be nominated as candidates, sparking discontent among BJP workers and former candidates.
Tensions have risen among both BJP and Congress workers due to the defection of Lahaul-Spiti’s rebel Congress MLA Ravi Thakur to the BJP and his subsequent nomination as a candidate. Dr. Ramlal Markanda, a former BJP candidate, has suggested running as an independent or from the Congress party. Supporters of former BJP candidate and senior leader Veerendra Kanwar are also expressing dissatisfaction. In the upcoming by-election on this seat, the BJP has nominated the Congress rebel MLA Butto as its candidate. Veerendra Kanwar has stated that he respects the party’s decision but there is resentment among the workers.
The allocation of tickets to rebel Congress MLAs as BJP candidates for the by-elections has led to clashes between BJP and Congress workers.
While the BJP has announced candidates for the Lok Sabha and by-elections in Himachal, the Congress party has not finalized its candidates yet. Congress leaders believe that campaigning has already begun for both elections in Himachal Pradesh.
