Shimla, March 12: The iconic Sankatmochan Temple in the capital city of Shimla has unveiled a state-of-the-art parking facility, easing congestion for devotees and tourists. Constructed for four crores within the temple premises, the parking lot has a capacity of 200 vehicles. Lok Nirman Minister Vikramaditya Singh inaugurated the Smart City Mission-backed facility on Wednesday.
Addressing the occasion, Vikramaditya Singh stated that the demand of the residents of Kacchi Ghati ward and the Sankatmochan Temple area for an elaborate parking solution has been met. He emphasized that due to the increasing footfall of tourists and devotees at the Sankatmochan Temple, there was a pressing need for a grand parking facility, which has now been fulfilled under the Smart City Mission.
Singh highlighted that the construction of this parking facility was initiated in 2013 by former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, but due to delays in obtaining forest clearances and other formalities, the completion took some time. The parking lot can accommodate 200 vehicles, providing convenience not only to tourists but also to the local residents.
He further revealed plans for the construction of a significant community building near the Sankatmochan Temple, intended for hosting events such as feasts and other community activities. Singh assured that the local people and tourists alike would benefit from the parking facility, emphasizing the importance of balancing development with preserving Shimla’s aesthetic appeal.
Additionally, Vikramaditya Singh announced the forthcoming construction of a circular road from Sankatmochan to Baddi village, enhancing connectivity and accessibility for locals and tourists. He directed the Public Works Department to complete all formalities for the road expansion and map out balanced and uniform development in all wards of the Shimla Municipal Corporation.
The Minister expressed the commitment of the government to both the development of the state and the Shimla region. He affirmed that efforts are underway to ensure that all wards in the Shimla Municipal Corporation receive balanced and equitable development. Singh concluded by stating that while development is necessary, preserving the beauty of Shimla is a collective responsibility.
