Election Commission Announces Schedule for Himachal Pradesh Rajya Sabha Bypoll 2024

The Election Commission of India has officially declared the schedule for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha for the state of Himachal Pradesh. The bypoll is necessitated due to the impending conclusion of the term of office of the current Rajya Sabha Member, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, on April 2, 2024.
To fill the vacant seat, the Election Commission will issue a notification on February 8, 2024, officially commencing the election process. The key dates for the election process are as follows:

2. Last Date for Filing Nominations: February 15, 2024 (Friday)
3. Scrutiny of Nominations: To be Announced
4. Last Date for Withdrawal of Candidature: To be announced
5. Polling Date: February 29, 2024 (Wednesday)
6. Polling Time: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
7. Counting of Votes:February 29, 2024 (Wednesday) at 5:00 PM
8. Completion of the Election Process: February 29, 2024 (Wednesday)
For the smooth conduct of the biennial election, the Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly has been appointed as the Returning Officer, with the Additional Secretary of the Legislative Assembly serving as the Assistant Returning Officer. As per the Representation of the People Act, 1951, Section 39(2) read with Section 34(1)(b), each candidate is required to submit a nomination deposit of ₹10,000, while candidates from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes need to submit ₹5,000 as a security amount.
The polling venue for the Rajya Sabha bypoll will be the Dr. Y.S. Parmar Library within the premises of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. This announcement aims to inform the general public about the forthcoming election process in the state.
