Major Milestone Achieved in Tehri Power Complex by THDC India Limited

Rishikesh, January 5, 2024: THDC India Limited, a leading PSU in the Power Sector, has marked a significant milestone in the commissioning of the 2400 MW Tehri Power Complex. The Butterfly Valve (BFV) of the first unit (U#5, 250 MW) of the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Project (PSP) was successfully lowered onto the foundation on January 4, 2024. This accomplishment is a crucial step towards achieving full operational capacity for India’s largest hydro power complex, with the 1000 MW Tehri HPP and 400 MW Koteshwar HEP already in successful operation.

Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, praised the dedicated efforts of the Tehri PSP team and extended congratulations to all involved for their sincere and concerted contributions leading to the achievement of this milestone. The successful placement of the BFV signifies progress in the project and sets the stage for the next phases of development.

Highlighting the significance of this achievement, Sh. Vishnoi stated that it brings THDC a step closer to commissioning Tehri PSP, playing a pivotal role in the Government of India’s vision to integrate over 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and the country’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Once commissioned, the Tehri Power Complex, the largest in India with a total capacity of 2400 MW, will play a crucial role in ensuring 24*7 affordable power supply, contributing significantly to the nation’s economic growth.

The Tehri Pumped Storage Project reflects THDC India Limited’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally conscious energy solutions, aligning with the broader national objective of mitigating carbon footprints. This achievement underscores THDC India Limited’s dedication to pioneering advancements in the energy sector, bringing the nation closer to a landmark Variable Speed Pumped Storage Project. Senior officials from THDCIL and GEPIL, including Sh. L. P. Joshi, ED(TC), Sh. Neeraj Verma, GM (PSP-EM&HM), Sh. A.R. Gairola, GM (PSP-Civil), Sh. S.K Sahoo, AGM (PSP-EM&HM), Dr. A.N. Tripathy, AGM (HR&A and Corp. Comm.), along with other senior officials of THDC India Limited, witnessed this significant milestone.
