Excerpt from the novel “Gantavya” – A Profound Discussion on Education and Unemployment

The number of educated but unemployed individuals in the country increased by one digit. I had completed my Master’s degree and had recently returned to my village. In a few months, I became part of the group of people in my village, whether it was a local market or a tea stall. In their eyes, I was the biggest fool. Some would say, “Tri bhuvan Pandit’s son, the scholar from Mithilasera, wasted his parents’ money on education, and now that it’s time to earn, he’s sitting idle and broke. He has no work.”

Some others, in a worried tone, would say, “You are absolutely right, my friend. Educating children is a waste of time. Educated boys become fools and worthless.” If someone from the village met me, they would inquire not only about my well-being or other news but also about my job. It was not because they cared a lot about my job; rather, they wanted to establish that I was indeed the ultimate fool.

On the same day, I was going somewhere with my friend Veerendra, a shopkeeper named Charitar Chaubey, who was sitting in a tea stall sipping tea, called both of us.
