High Court Dismisses Govt’s Application in CPS Appointment Case, Including Deputy CM

The State High Court has dismissed the government’s application in the case of appointments to the Chhattisgarh Police Service (CPS), including the Deputy Chief Minister. The state government had raised questions about the quality of the challenges posed by the CPS appointments. The government argued that all the petitions had not been filed in accordance with the rules of the High Court. The petitions challenging the appointments of CPS officers, including the Deputy Chief Minister, were filed by 12 legislators, including Satpal Singh Satti from Una.
It’s worth noting that the CPS appointments have been challenged through three petitions. First, in 2016, the People for Responsible Governance organization had challenged the CPS appointments. When the new government came to power and appointed CPS officers, they were again challenged through a petition. Kalpana Devi from Mandi also filed a petition challenging the CPS appointments.
The appointments of CPS officers, including Sanjay Awasthi from Arki legislative assembly constituency, Sundar Singh from Kullu, Ram Kumar from Doon, Mohan Lal Brakta from Rohru, Ashish Butail from Palampur, and Kishori Lal from Baijnath, have all been challenged. All these petitions allege that similar appointments had been challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The High Court had declared these appointments unconstitutional.
