Shimla, July 28 – Continuous heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in the Rampur subdivision of Himachal Pradesh. The downpour triggered landslides near the Brownie Khad, causing disruption on National Highway 5, resulting in a halt of vehicular movement and communication. Furthermore, afternoon, there was another landslide near Jhakri, leading to the closure of NH-5. The closure of NH-5 since Thursday midnight led to tremendous difficulties for thousands of people trying to reach their destinations.

Following the closure, the NH Authority and laborers are working tirelessly to restore the road, but frequent landslides are posing significant challenges to their efforts. Additionally, the landslide at Chati Samark has also resulted in the closure of the alternative route, making it difficult for vehicles to be rerouted, leading to further inconvenience for the affected people.

In Jhakri, travelers coming from Kinnaur to Shimla and vice versa anxiously awaited the reopening of the road. Unfortunately, the road remained closed even by late evening, leaving them disappointed. Several individuals, in desperation, chose to undertake perilous journeys on foot to reach their destinations.

Suman, the Executive Engineer of the National Highway Authority in Rampur, stated that the landslides near Brownie Khad and the complete blockage of NH-5 have severely affected transportation. He anticipated that it might take some time for the road to be fully functional again. Authorities are making every effort to reopen the road for smaller vehicles by Friday evening, but it remains challenging for larger vehicles.

The situation has caused immense inconvenience and frustration for travelers and locals alike, who are left to cope with the repercussions of the natural calamity. The authorities are working relentlessly to clear the debris and restore connectivity, but the continuous rainfall and persistent landslides are making their task arduous. As the region grapples with these challenges, people are urged to exercise caution and follow the instructions provided by the authorities until the situation is brought under control.
