Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools to foster personality development among students: CM

Shimla, May 31 – In a significant move towards improving the quality of education in Himachal Pradesh, the present State Government has announced the establishment of Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools. These schools will be constructed in each legislative assembly constituency of the State and will have a capacity of accommodating approximately 900 to 1000 students from pre-primary to 12th class. These schools would be equipped with Hi-tech Smart classrooms, play fields, indoor stadium, swimming pool, music room etc.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, in the budget speech for the year 2023-24, emphasized the need to enhance education standards in the State. The Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools aim to provide modern facilities for students, fostering their personality development and instilling self-confidence to better prepare them for future challenges.

The construction of these schools will be carried out in a phased manner. In the initial phase, blocks from pre-nursery to fifth grade will be built, with a targeted completion time of 18 months. The schools will follow the CBSE curriculum, ensuring a focus on quality education.

Each Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding School would be constructed on more than 100 kanals of land, offering ample space for academic activities as well as recreational areas for students to play. Hi-tech smart classrooms, indoor stadiums, playgrounds, and even a swimming pool will be provided to enhance the overall learning experience.

The Chief Minister said that “As part of this initiative, land measuring more than 100 kanals in each constituency, preferably within a 5-kilometer radius of the district, sub-division, or tehsil headquarters, will be transferred to the Education Department.”

The establishment of Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools marks a decisive step towards providing quality education to the students of Himachal Pradesh. The government’s vision is to create an educational environment that nurtures students and equips them with the skills necessary to face upcoming challenges.
