32 Nauni varsity students to visit AIT Bangkok for month-long training

In a major step towards providing international exposure to its undergraduate students, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni will be sending 32 BSc students of the university for one month fully sponsored International Training programme to the prestigious Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok.
The students will be enrolled in the ‘Technological Advancements Toward Sustainable Development of Horticulture and Forestry’ course at the Department of Food, Agriculture and Bioresources, AIT. A total of 32 students, 16 each from the Horticulture and Forestry disciplines covering two colleges from the main campus and the constituent college at Neri. The training programme is being organised under the ICAR National Agricultural Higher Education Project’s (NAHEP) Institutional Development Plan which is being implemented at the university for the past two years.
UHF Vice-Chancellor Professor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel said, “We are delighted that we have received the approval from the ICAR for sending these students for this International programme. This is a great achievement for the university. The selected students will be admitted as ‘Special students’ in the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), for a period of one month starting from 12 January”.
Professor Chandel added that the students have been selected on academic performance at the undergraduate level. He said that this is a wonderful opportunity for our students who will be exposed to the latest technological advancement in the field of horticulture and forestry. The Vice-Chancellor said that the technical information and practical experience the students gain from this International Training Program will be useful for nurturing their professional careers, and will contribute to sustainable agricultural development.
Dr. KK Raina, Principal Investigator of IDP informed that the students will be leaving for Bangkok on January 9 and all the formalities have been completed. He said that the university is also in the process of sending university faculty for similar international training programmes.
