World Food Day celebrated at Shoolini University

MS Swaminathan School of Agriculture, Shoolini University organised an event to celebrate the World Food Day on the theme “Our actions are our future”.

Dr PK Khosla, Chancellor, Prof. Atul Khosla, Vice Chancellor, Shoolini University, and Prof. Modadugu Vijay Gupta, World Food Prize Laureate, 2005 and Sunhak Peace Prize Laureate, 2015 were present during the event.

Prof. YS Negi, Dean, MS Swaminathan School of Agriculture, in his welcome address introduced the theme of World Food Day, 2021. He emphasized that the theme “our actions are our future” suggests a holistic approach to the problem of global hunger, where our concerted efforts on education, health, technology, and environmental front will pave the way for sustainable solutions to the problem of hunger and malnutrition.

Prof. Atul Khosla highlighted the need to use AI based modern technology in farming to get the most of it. He also emphasised the conservation of indigenous genetic materials for conserving biodiversity, and actions on addressing the issues relating to farm economics and marketing.

Dr PK Khosla traced the path of agricultural development, particularly the green revolution, in the country. Citing examples of how difficult the situation was at the time of independence, he felt relieved that the country has moved a long way on food front from the situation of “ship to mouth” to a ranked food exporter.
