Shimla, March 26 – A major controversy has erupted in Tutu Chowk after a local resident was fined ₹20,000 for taking his bike through the Power House Link Road during restricted hours. The police have enforced a no-entry rule from 8 AM to 8 PM, with hefty penalties for violators.
Pankaj Thakur, the biker who was fined, expressed his frustration, stating that his home is near the railway track on the restricted road, and he frequently uses the route. He questioned the excessive penalty, arguing that even in central Shimla, such high fines are not imposed.
The Tutu Traders’ Association has strongly objected to the ₹20,000 fine, calling it unjustified. Association President Rajeev Sood, Advisor Surendra Thakur, and General Secretary Devendra Chaudhary announced that they would meet with the SP and DC of Shimla to seek exemptions for residents who live or park their vehicles in the restricted area.
Residents and business owners are demanding a revision of the penalty, calling for a more reasonable approach that considers the needs of local commuters.
