UK Global Investors Summit 2023: THDC India Limited Unveils Ambitious Water Sports High Performance Academy
3 min readDehradun, December 8: In a momentous occasion, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, inaugurated the historic Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit-2023, symbolizing a new era of growth and development for the state. Among the groundbreaking announcements during this summit, R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, revealed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that is set to redefine the landscape of water sports in the region.
The signing ceremony, graced by the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, marked the initiation of a pivotal project – the THDCIL Water Sports High Performance Academy at Koteshwar, Tehri, Uttarakhand. This visionary project is a collaboration between THDC India Limited, the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association (IKCA), Uttaranchal Olympic Association (UOA), and the Department of Yuva Kalyan and Sports, Government of Uttarakhand.
Under the leadership of Vishnoi, the MoU was signed by key representatives including Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel) of THDCIL, Sh. Prashant Kushwaha, President of IKCA, Dr. D. K. Singh, Secretary General of UOA, Amit Sinha (IPS), Special Principal Secretary Sports & Youth Welfare, Uttarakhand, and L. P. Joshi, Executive Director (TC) of THDCIL.
This groundbreaking agreement outlines the establishment of a state-of-the-art high-performance academy equipped with a residential facility for both male and female athletes. The academy’s objective is to enhance athlete performance by providing cutting-edge tools, equipment, and facilities.
The THDCIL Water Sports High Performance Academy is set to become a focal point for the training of athletes in disciplines such as Canoe Sprint, Para-Canoe, and Canoe Slalom, with a specific focus on preparing them for prestigious international events. These events include World Championships, Asian Level Championships, and Ranking Championships, positioning Uttarakhand as a powerhouse in the world of water sports.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, commended THDCIL for its pivotal role in this initiative, stating that the academy is a testament to the state’s commitment to creating a global ecosystem that not only enhances sports locally but also contributes to the development of an international environment at the high-performance academy in Koteshwar, Tehri.
Rekha Arya, Hon’ble Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Uttarakhand, extended her heartfelt congratulations to THDC on the signing of this historic MoU, recognizing its potential to boost the sports and youth development landscape in the state.
Vishnoi emphasized the academy’s commitment to fostering international collaboration by welcoming foreign athletes, positioning it as a global hub for nurturing talent, providing world-class training facilities, and promoting the exchange of expertise on an international scale.
In his closing remarks, Vishnoi congratulated the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for organizing the landmark Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit 2023, recognizing its potential to catalyze overall socio-economic development in the state. He highlighted THDC’s proactive role in the development initiatives of Uttarakhand, citing recent MoUs for five Hydro projects totaling 1719 MW, with an estimated investment of Rs. 17,000 Crores, promising substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities for the youth of Uttarakhand. This multifaceted approach underscores THDC’s unwavering commitment to the holistic development of Uttarakhand, making it a beacon of progress and prosperity on the national stage.
