“THDCIL-UJVNL JV Secures 1719 MW Clean Energy Portfolio in Uttarakhand”

In a groundbreaking development, THDC India Limited and UJVNL’s joint venture, THDCIL-UJVNL Energy Company Limited, has secured a monumental 1719 MW clean energy portfolio in Uttarakhand. This significant stride towards sustainable energy was announced by Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, during the Energy Conclave held on December 5, 2023, in Dehradun.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Sh. Pushkar Singh Dhami, entrusted the responsibility for the development and commissioning of five hydroelectric projects to the joint venture. These projects include the Mori Hanol Hydro Electric Project (63 MW) in Uttarkashi, Urthing Sobla Hydro Electric Project (280 MW) in Pithoragarh, Bogudiyar Sarkari Bhyol Hydro Electric Project (146 MW) in Pithoragarh, Pungarh-Matiyala Pump Storage Plant (600 MW) in Tehri-Garhwal, and Jaspalgarh Pump Storage Plant (630 MW) in Pauri-Garhwal.

The formal allotment letters were received by Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical) of THDC India Limited, from the Hon’ble Chief Minister, symbolizing the official commencement of these ambitious projects.

Upon completion, these hydroelectric projects will collectively contribute 1719 MW of clean energy, representing a remarkable investment of ₹17,000 crores. Additionally, this initiative is expected to generate around 900 employment opportunities, reinforcing the socio-economic impact of the venture.

This strategic move underscores the commitment of THDCIL and UJVNL to strengthen the nation’s energy sector and aligns with global efforts to achieve net-zero emission targets. By emphasizing clean energy solutions, the joint venture is playing a pivotal role in advancing sustainable and environmentally responsible practices. The announcement marks a significant milestone in India’s pursuit of a greener and more energy-efficient future.
