Secretary (Power) Pankaj Agarwal, Conducts Inspection Visit to India’s Largest 2400 MW Tehri Hydro Complex
2 min readRishikesh, October 1, 2023: Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), Ministry of Power (Government of India), recently embarked on an official inspection visit to the 2400 MW Tehri Hydro Complex located in Tehri, Uttarakhand. This visit held significant importance as it marked Sh. Agarwal’s first-ever visit to THDC India Limited (THDCIL), with Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDCIL, extending a warm welcome and expressing his heartfelt gratitude for the visit.
Upon his arrival at Tehri Complex, Sh. Agarwal received greetings from Sh. J. Behera, Director (Finance), Sh. Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), and Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical). During his visit, Sh. Agarwal administered the Swacchata Pakhwada pledge at Tehri and, in collaboration with THDC Management, officers, and local residents of Bhagirathipuram, Tehri, engaged in Shramdaan for a Cleanliness Drive at the shopping complex in Bhagirathipuram.
Sh. Pankaj Agarwal demonstrated a keen interest during his visit and conducted an in-depth inspection of various crucial components of the Tehri Hydro Complex. This included examining the Upstream Surge shafts, Butterfly Valve chamber, Penstock assembly chamber, Power House, and TRT outfall. Following the inspection, he held a comprehensive Review Meeting with the management and senior officers of the Tehri Hydro Project.
One of the highlights of Sh. Agarwal’s visit was gaining insights into the progress of the Operation and Maintenance activities of the 1000 MW Tehri Hydroelectric Project and the ongoing activities of the 1000 MW (4×250) Tehri Pumped Storage Plant. He expressed his appreciation for the high standards of O&M activities carried out by THDC Officials. He also emphasized that THDC is not only making valuable contributions by providing affordable Clean and Green Energy to the Northern Grid but also playing a significant role in Flood Control and providing irrigation-related benefits, contributing to the socio-economic development of the entire region.
Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), and L. P. Joshi, Executive Director (Tehri Complex), provided valuable insights into the ongoing works of the 4×250 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant, which plays a crucial role in India’s Hydroelectric Energy Generation infrastructure.
Sh. R. K. Vishnoi highlighted that the Tehri Pumped Storage Plant is the largest among the Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) in the country and underlined the government’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions. He also informed that the first unit of THDC’s flagship Tehri Pumped Storage Plant is scheduled to be commissioned in February 2024, followed by other units in phases.
