Get subsidy on buying e-vehicles in UP, govt announces policy
2 min readLucknow, Oct 13 – In a bid to reduce air pollution, to reduce dependency on petrol and diesel and to promote electric vehicles, the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday announced to implement New Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022.
A proposal in this regard was passed by the state cabinet in its meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Total 30 proposals were passed during the cabinet meeting.
Under the new policy incentives will not only be given to the industries, but to the buyers of the electric vehicles as well.
Giving details of the policy, Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said, “The Electric Vehicle Policy has been introduced to check air pollution by promoting electrical vehicles and reduce dependency on petrol and diesel under Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
He said that under the new policy provision has been made on subsidies on charging stations, battery swapping service stations and on purchase of two-wheeler, three-wheeler, four-wheeler vehicles and buses. “The main objective of the policy is not only to create an eco-friendly transportation system in the state, but also to make UP a global hub for the manufacturing of electric vehicles, batteries and associated equipment,” he said.
Khanna said that as per the new policy a subsidy of Rs 5,000 will be given on purchase of a two-wheeler, Rs 12,000 on three wheeler and Rs 1 lakh on the purchase of a four-wheeler. “Besides a subsidy of up to Rs 20 lakh will be given on purchase of private buses. Its a very attractive policy,” he said.
He said that capital subsidy to the first 2,000 charging station service providers, developing charging and battery swapping facilities across the state, up to maximum Rs 10 lakh per charging station will be given. “Similarly, a maximum Rs 5 lakh capital subsidy per swapping station subject to the maximum first 1,000 such swapping stations will be given,” he said.
In addition to this, the Minister said that road tax on electric vehicles will be exempted for the first three years. “After that road tax on those electric vehicles, which are manufactured in UP, will not be charged. There will be a 100 per cent rebate in road tax on Made in UP electric vehicles,” he said.
With a primary objective to contribute to India’s Net Zero target for 2070, the policy also aims to fulfil the state’s aspiration of becoming a trillion-dollar economy by leveraging its potential and opportunities in the EV industry. Therefore, the policy aims at attracting investment of more than Rs 30,000 crore and generating direct and indirect employment for over 10 lakh people.
