Opening of Skill Development Centers in the country
2 min readDelhi, Feb 13- The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is implementing Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and Scheme of Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) for Skill Development under Skill India Mission.
PMKVY does not mandate the establishment of training centres. However, accredited and affiliatedtraining centres with more than 4 star rating are eligible for empanelment under PMKVY2.0. Under the process of accreditation of training centre, the broad parameters namely area of training infrastructure, availability of training tools/equipments, counsellors, safety measures, AEBAS facility, etc, are required to be met as per laid down guidelines. Further, the scheme of Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) is being implemented through its institutional framework in the country with the objective to improve the occupational skills and technical knowledge of the non/neo literate. The empanelments of new JSSs are being done through Request-for- Proposal (RFP) mechanism.
In addition to above short-term training, Directorate General of Training (DGT) under MSDE is implementing long duration vocational courses through Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) with an objective to provide skilled work force to the industry as well as self-employment of youth.

Under PMKVY 2.0 (2016-20), as on 19.01.2021, 46.27 lakh candidates have been trained under Short Term Training (STT) courses and 60.68 lakh candidates have been oriented under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) component. Under JSS, around 6.3 lakh candidates have been trained since 2018 to till now. Under ITIs, 72.49 lakh candidates have been enrolled in last five years.Under placement linked Short Term Training (STT) component of PMKVY (2016-20), as on 19.01.2021, 36.04 lakh candidates have been certified; out of which, 18.95 lakh candidates have been placed across the country.This information was given by the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Raj Kumar Singh in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
