Zomato Hikes Platform Fee by 20% Ahead of Festive Season

1 min read

Zomato, part of Eterna Limited, has increased its platform fee from ₹10 to ₹12 per order ahead of the festive season, marking a 20% rise. Last year, the fee had been raised from ₹6 to ₹10 before festivals. The company expects higher orders during the season to boost profits, but the hike will directly impact customers, who will now pay more for food delivery.

Zomato stated that the decision was necessary to manage rising demand and increasing costs during the festive season. CNBC reports that over the past year, Zomato shares have risen 32%, with a market capitalization of approximately ₹2.92 lakh crore, making it a strong new entrant in Nifty.

  1. The Zomato team usually charges 27% commission (figure last quoted when they approached our premises to offer their services) on the billed amount from the Cafe/Restaurant. So the Logic was or advise offered raise your online menu rates by as much as 35% to make profits. So the customers do end up paying a high rate for food deliveries, but don’t realise the same. Comparisions are not high on the list unless the young are out to save money. Come Festive season, it is only about profits.
