Youth Volunteer Task Force: Himachal’s Empowerment in Disaster Management
1 min readHimachal Pradesh is an extremely sensitive state in terms of natural disasters. In any disaster situation, the contribution of selfless volunteers is crucial, as they are an integral part of society and can be present on-site to carry out relief and rescue work. The “Youth Volunteer Task Force Scheme” has been implemented under the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority since 2019. The goal is to train over 50,000 volunteers across the state. As part of this, more than 15,000 volunteers have already been trained. Additionally, under the “Aapda Mitra Scheme” by the Government of India, 1,500 volunteers have been trained in the state. This scheme is open to anyone, including college students, retired military personnel, and other young individuals, to participate and contribute their services.
All volunteers will receive a three-day training program conducted by the State/District Disaster Management Authority, covering primary aid, fire safety, search and rescue activities. Interested individuals are requested to register themselves on the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority’s website (www.hpsdma.nic.in) or contact their nearest District Disaster Management Authority (Emergency Operating Center toll-free number 1070/1077). The state’s youth participation is expected to strengthen disaster management efforts and ensure the success of the scheme.
