Nahan, Sept 8 – Youth are the backbone of any nation, carrying the strength, progress, and future of the country. However, the rising menace of drug abuse has emerged as one of the most serious challenges, weakening individuals physically, mentally, and socially, and pushing them into darkness. To combat this social evil, the administration of District Sirmaur, along with various departments, has intensified efforts under the statewide *Nasha Mukt Himachal Abhiyan*.
In Sirmaur, departments like welfare, education, health, police, rural development, youth services, and sports are actively collaborating to spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse. Awareness camps, rallies, street plays, and counseling sessions are being conducted in schools, colleges, and offices. The “Jeevan Jyoti” campaign, led by police and Scouts & Guides, is further strengthening community participation against drugs.
Farmers are being sensitized about the legal consequences of cultivating opium and cannabis, while enforcement agencies are uprooting naturally grown cannabis in several regions. To provide treatment and rehabilitation, six de-addiction centers are operational in the district, with additional facilities at Paonta Sahib CHC and Dr. Y.S. Parmar Medical College, Nahan.
Authorities stress that awareness, sensitivity, and collective participation are the strongest tools to achieve a drug-free society. Citizens are also being encouraged to report drug-related issues through the NCB portal, toll-free number 1933, and Umang app.
The call is clear—youth must pledge to stay away from drugs and engage in education, sports, and positive activities to build a healthy, progressive, and empowered nation.
