Shimla, October 31:

Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap announced that a special road safety workshop will be organized on November 23, 2025 for security guards and traffic in-charges of city schools. After receiving the training, they will further sensitize students about road safety measures. He was chairing the District Road Safety Committee meeting today.

Highlighting the unique traffic challenges of Shimla being the state capital with many schools located along main roads, the DC stressed the importance of creating a secure environment for school children. He added that similar workshops will also be held at the sub-division level.

Kashyap urged hotel, homestay and B&B associations to support road safety initiatives during the upcoming tourist season by guiding tourists with alternate routes, travel timings and safe movement to avoid congestion and inconvenience.

He also pointed out that improper parking is a major cause of road accidents and appealed to citizens to park only at designated places. The DC further called upon youth to drive responsibly, maintain safe speed and distance, and take breaks during long journeys.

To strengthen awareness efforts, ₹60,000 has been released to six HRTC depots — Local, Rural, Tara Devi, Nerva, Rohru and HRTC Divisional Workshop Tara Devi — to conduct training sessions for drivers, conductors and staff.

A road safety awareness bike rally and street play will be organized in Shimla on November 21. Vehicle owners are also being sensitized during vehicle passing procedures.

Senior officials including SSP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, ADC (Law & Order) Pankaj Sharma, Additional SP Navdeep Singh, DSP Vijay Raghuvanshi and committee members were present.
