Women Empowerment Achieved Without Guarantees Under PM Modi: Jairam

1 min read

Hamirpur, November 9, 2025: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur criticised the Himachal Pradesh Government during a women’s felicitation programme organised by the Sarv Kalyankari Trust in Sujanpur. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has honoured and empowered women through decisive policies without making any political “guarantees,” unlike the present state government which he accused of failing to deliver on its promises.

Thakur praised the trust and Sujanpur MLA Rajinder Rana for consistently honouring women and ex-servicemen for nearly two decades. He recalled his first participation in the programme 18 years ago with former Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal.

Highlighting the Centre’s initiatives, he said PM Modi strengthened national security through operations like the surgical strike and empowered women through schemes such as the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, FPO networks, Drone Sakhi, Ujjwala, Jan Dhan, and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He said schemes benefiting women were implemented without guarantees, while the state’s promise of ₹1,500 per month support remains unfulfilled.

The former CM accused the Sukhu Government of closing hundreds of institutions opened by the previous BJP government and failing to run existing schemes. He said people are repeatedly reporting delays in old-age pension, Sahara benefits, Shagun and Kanyadaan schemes, and Himcare treatment.

Thakur alleged that the state is witnessing administrative collapse, with citizens suffering due to stalled welfare programmes and growing dissatisfaction. He urged the Chief Minister to focus on governance instead of blaming the Centre and opposing political rivals.
