Woman swindled of Rs. 1.43 lakhs through ATM fraud

Kangra, Apr 29 – Two girls and a boy stole the ATM card of a woman resident of Nandrul in Kangra town, and fraudulently withdrew Rs. 1.43 lakhs from her account.
Kangra Sub Divisional Police Officer Madan Dhiman told UNI on Saturday that
the victim, Saroj Kumari is a resident of Ward No. 1, Nandrul, she visited a Punjab National Bank ATM at Kangra Bus stand and sought help from two girls and a boy for withdrawing Rs. 10,000.
The two girls asked the woman the pin code and withdrew Rs. 1000 only saying that they have forgot to press the last 0 digit. Meanwhile they told the victim that some problem has cropped up in the ATM machine. SDPO said that during this process they exchanged her card with another card of some Vipin Kumar of Delhi.
Soon after this trio starting misusing her stolen ATM Card and first withdrew Rs. 20,000 cash followed by purchasing to the tune of Rs 1.23 lakhs.
After some time the message of withdrawal of money came on the phone of the victim. She visited the bank immediately but was told by bank officials that if she has not withdrawn the cash of Rs. 20,000 many times the machine jumps and if your money is not deducted then again the message of money withdrawal will come in the account, after which she went home and after reaching home, she started receiving messages one after the other about withdrawal of money on her phone and within no time she got deprived of Rs. 1.43 lakhs.
SDPO Dhiman said that then she lodged a complaint with Kangra Police station. Later on she came to know that her ATM was exchanged by the trio.
Vijay Kumar Verma SHO Kangra told UNI after the FIR was lodged police has started investigation and collected the CCTV footage.
Police sources said that the break through in the case was just near and the two girls involved in the crime are surprisingly local and as soon as the boy will be identified they will be arrested.
Police has appealed to people that they should not seek help from any one while withdrawing money at the ATM and should not divulge the ATM PIN to any one.
