2 min read

Himachal Pradesh, October 6 – In a tragic incident in the Rug village of Himachal Pradesh’s Daah Gram Panchayat, a woman lost her life when a fire broke out in a makeshift hut. This incident also claimed the lives of seven goats. Former Deputy Head of the Gram Panchayat, Anil Pundir, informed the police about the incident.

Local residents attempted to extinguish the fire, but they were unable to rescue Mehandi Devi, the woman who was inside the hut when the blaze started. The hut had been constructed using wooden logs and covered with plastic sheets.

The incident occurred on Friday night at around 8 PM. Mehandi Devi was reportedly using a small angithi (traditional heating device) inside the hut after taking a bath. During this time, she accidentally opened the lid of the angithi, causing the hut to catch fire.

As the fire engulfed the hut, a horse tied outside the hut panicked and broke free. Meanwhile, Mehandi Devi began calling for help from inside, but her husband, Devendra, who rushed outside to rescue her, couldn’t enter the hut due to the thick smoke and high flames.

Local residents rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire, but by then, Mehandi Devi had succumbed to severe burns, and seven goats that were inside the hut had also perished in the blaze.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Arun Modi confirmed the incident and stated that the body of the deceased has been handed over to her family after post-mortem. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
