Webinar on “Build Back Better” strategies on 19th December
2 min readDuring the current monsoon disaster, the housing sector in the State suffered huge losses on account of the damage and destruction of the build-up structures. As part of the relief and rehabilitation measures, the State Government took up various initiatives. In the reconstruction process the strategies as suggested by United Nation Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction to follow the “Build Back Better” (BBB) is being adopted by the Government at all levels of rural constructions.
To sensitize different organs of the Government, especially the technical expertise available with the Rural Development department, a webinar is being organized on 19th December, 2023 from 11:00 AM onwards for the engineering wing of the department.
The participants at all block level would be sensitized about the Safe Construction Practices to be adopted while undertaking the reconstruction work in consonance with the “Build Back Better” strategies aiming in reducing the risk to the people and communities in the wake of future disasters and shocks.
Eminent researchers working in this field which includes Dr. Ajay Chaurasia- Chief Scientist, Ashish Pipal-Scientist E and H.K. Jain- Technical Officer from CBRI Roorkee and Dr. Hemant Vinayak- Associate Professor from NIT Hamirpur would interact with the participants.
Director cum Spl. Sec (Rev-DM), D.C. Rana briefed that the State Government was very much concerned on this issue and was taking several measures to have Disaster Resilience build up the environment in the State, so that the post disaster effects were not only minimized but would also help in saving the precious human lives.
The Government has already issued instructions to the District Administration to reduce the existing vulnerabilities such as poor foundations, construction on loose/unsettled soil, the steep slopes and poor construction with vulnerabilities for hazards like earthquakes should not be allowed to be built in while undertaking reconstruction work.
He appealed to the house owners to construct multi hazard resistant structures so that houses were earthquake and landslide resistant as well and advised the technical staff of blocks to have proper monitoring at different stages like foundation stage, door and window level and at the lintel/slab stage.
