Water Sports & Shikara Rides to Begin in Pong Dam from September 16

Kangra, July 29: Tourists visiting Kangra’s Pong region, the tourism capital of Himachal Pradesh, will soon be able to enjoy shikara rides, bird watching decks, paddle boats, speed boating, and jetties as water sports activities are set to officially launch on September 16. Following a successful trial, operators have registered several boats with the district tourism office, and more registrations are expected before the launch.

Water sports couldn’t start earlier due to low water levels during the summer months of May and June. However, with monsoon replenishing the dam and lifting of restrictions on adventure tourism, activities will now commence.

As per the district administration, boating will be allowed post 10:00 AM and after 5:00 PM, as the Pong training institute conducts sessions during other hours.

District Tourism Officer Vinay Dhiman confirmed the successful trial and said water sports at Pong will begin officially from September 16, offering a new adventure tourism experience to visitors.
