New Delhi/Himachal Pradesh, April 2, 2025 – Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur, while speaking on the “Waqf Amendment Bill 2024” in Lok Sabha, accused the opposition of compromising the Constitution for vote-bank politics. He declared that now is the right time to free India from the fear of Waqf.
Thakur emphasized that the Modi government stands with the backward, women, and underprivileged sections of society. Citing the 2005 Sachar Committee report, he highlighted widespread irregularities in Waqf boards, stating that their annual revenue could reach ₹12,000 crore if properly managed. He noted that Islamic nations like Turkey, Libya, Egypt, and Iraq do not have Waqf properties, yet India has continued with the system since 1954.
He accused political parties of using Waqf laws to serve vote-bank politics, turning them into tools for land mafias. He stated that Waqf is anti-poor and anti-Muslim women, dispelling misinformation that the bill would seize Muslim properties.
Thakur also alleged that Congress leaders were involved in Waqf-related scams, particularly in Karnataka. He asserted that the bill would free illegally occupied Waqf properties, with 75% in Hyderabad and 60% in Mumbai under unauthorized control. He concluded by saying that this bill ensures India will be governed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution, not Mughal-era dictates.
