Vande Mataram: Symbol of India’s Freedom — Jairam Thakur

Shimla, November 07, 2025: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said that “Vande Mataram” is the soul of India’s freedom movement, inspiring patriotism, courage and unity among millions. Speaking at the celebration marking 150 years of the iconic national song, he stated that the composition by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay played a significant role in the independence struggle and became the war cry of revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad.

He criticized Congress for opposing the song in some states, saying that disrespecting a national symbol that fueled India’s freedom is unacceptable. He praised the Central Government for commemorating 150 years of “Vande Mataram” and promoting India’s cultural legacy and forgotten national heroes.

Responding to media queries, he questioned the State Government’s claims on externally aided projects and highlighted the growing financial crisis in the state. He said the Centre has continuously supported Himachal and that acknowledging this support is basic courtesy.
