Shimla,Feb 06: The issue of Indians being deported from the United States has been making headlines, especially due to the manner in which they were sent back, with handcuffs and shackles. The matter has sparked questions from both politicians and the public. Himachal Pradesh’s Cabinet Minister Vikramaditya Singh has also voiced his opinion on the issue.
Vikramaditya Singh expressed his views on social media, stating that the deportation of Indian migrants from the US is a matter of concern, not only for India but for the entire world. Recently, 104 Indian migrants, most of them from Punjab and neighboring states, were deported under US President Donald Trump’s new immigration policies, which involve strict action against illegal immigration. However, Singh expressed disappointment at the way these migrants were treated during their deportation.
He emphasized that the deported migrants were brought back in handcuffs and shackles, which he described as inhumane. Singh raised the question of whether India, with its claim of being a “Vishwaguru” (world leader), is living up to its role on the global stage. He criticized the government’s claim of being a global leader, stating that this incident raises serious concerns about the nation’s position. While he expressed support for measures against illegal immigration, he stressed that deportations should be carried out humanely.
Punjab’s NRI Affairs Minister, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, also commented, stating that these migrants should have been granted permanent residence as they had contributed to the US economy.
