Urgent Demand for Clarity on Hatti Community’s Tribal Status by Pradesh Congress
2 min readNahan, 15th December: Harsh Vardhan Chauhan, the Minister of Industries, addressed the recent notification issued by the Central government regarding granting Scheduled Tribe status to the Hatti community in the Trans-Giri region of Sirmaur district. He expressed concerns about the ambiguity in the notification and stated that the Pradesh Congress has sought clarification from the central government.
Chauhan explained that the Central government’s notification included the entire Hatti community under the Scheduled Tribe category, encompassing Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and General Category Individuals. He emphasized that some groups within the community wish to retain the separate identity established in the past.
The Minister highlighted that the Pradesh Congress, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu and himself, is committed to resolving the issues and demands of the Hatti community promptly. He assured that the Pradesh government is clear about ensuring the speedy implementation of the Scheduled Tribe status for the Hatti community. Chauhan reiterated that the government will uphold the interests of all sections of society and formulate future policies based on a fair and inclusive approach.
Harsh Vardhan Chauhan urged everyone to avoid viewing this matter through a political lens and emphasized the importance of fostering unity and camaraderie among different communities. He stated that the Pradesh government understands the gravity of the issue and will discuss it with central leadership to find a permanent solution. As soon as clarification is received from the Central government, the government will promptly implement the decision.
Chauhan added that he has been actively working towards securing Scheduled Tribe status for the Hatti community since 1993 when he first became a legislator. He appreciated the community’s unity and thanked Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu for the government’s quick response to the demands of the Hatti community.
In a separate development, Harsh Vardhan Chauhan announced approved development plans worth ₹100 crores for the Shillai Assembly constituency. He mentioned that ₹10 crores have been allocated for individual development projects in families within the constituency. The Minister highlighted that he regularly visits the region to address people’s issues and concerns.
Pratap Singh Jeldar, President of the Giripar Hatti Vikas Kalyan Manch, expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and Minister for their efforts towards securing Scheduled Tribe status for the Hatti community. He cautioned against interpreting the issue through a political lens and urged the community to stay united. Jeldar submitted a memorandum through the Additional District Magistrate, appealing to the President of India to rectify the shortcomings in the legislation and swiftly implement it for the community’s benefit.
